Our Center
As part of our treatment approach, we realize that there are many factors contributing to a child’s daily life and performance across settings. Therefore, we offer a variety of treatment approaches within our center to address not only sensory processing but also fine motor skills, visual perceptual skills, activities of daily living, handwriting, and much more. Our goal is to generalize your child’s progress across environments so that they are confident and thriving at home and in school.
Sensory Gym
We offer a state of the art sensory gym to target all eight of your child’s senses and focus on integration and regulation. Here we can also focus on core strengthening, motor coordination, primary reflex integration, executive functioning skills, and overall sensory processing (to name a few!). Programs such as Astronaut Training Protocol, Wilbarger’s Brushing Protocol, Integrative Listening System, Therapeutic Listening System, deep breathing techniques, yoga, and mindfulness can all be incorporated in this space. Our gym boasts a variety of therapeutic equipment to offer your child the specific input they need to feel focused, and ready to listen and learn.
Handwriting Room
We address a wide range of fine motor skills from grasping small objects to handwriting skills. In this space we can focus on tactile desensitization, grasping, hand strengthening, cutting skills, handwriting skills, and much more. These skills are able to be addressed in a smaller, less distracting environment that mimics that of a small classroom. Our staff is trained in Learning Without Tears and can meet your child’s needs from 18 months through their teenage years. This space is also ideal for trialing possible classroom modifications such as slant boards, modified seat cushions, pencil grips, etc. to find the best fit for your child’s needs.
Regulation Room
With our children growing up in a fast paced and overstimulating world, we wanted to create a calming room to reset and relax. Our regulation room provides beanbag chairs, fiber-optic lights and more to help children calm their bodies. Some of the children we work with are not ready to enter the big playground-like setting of our sensory gym and benefit from exploring one piece of equipment at a time first. Others simply need respite from an overstimulating day. Once they are regulated, they are able to put forth their best effort in practicing other skill areas. Visual motor, visual discrimination, and visual tracking skills are all targeted with the assistance of wall panels, bubble tubes, fiber optics, cause and effect light panels, and much more. Weighted animals, weighted blankets, and alternative seating provide proprioceptive input to increase body awareness and promote regulation and focus. This room is a great transitional environment for children who need to decompress after their school day.
Kitchen
Our kitchen is where we can get messy! This is where we make slime, try new recipes, fingerpaint or practice letters in shaving cream. We are able to address common challenges such as picky eating, difficulty touching textures and keeping organized (following recipes are a big executive function challenge!) all in a very motivating and low-stakes setting. Here our therapists can also address oral motor sensitivities, oral defensiveness, oral tone, challenges with eating, utensil manipulation, and more. Our clients can also benefit from independence skills focusing on simple meal prep, following recipes, organizational skills, etc. This space can also be utilized to address challenges with grooming such as hand washing, face washing, hair brushing, and more.
