What is Occupational Therapy?
“Occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants focus on the things you want and need to do in your daily life. Occupational therapy intervention uses everyday life activities (occupations) to promote health, well-being, and your ability to participate in the important activities in your life. This includes any meaningful activity that a person wants to accomplish, including taking care of yourself and your family, working, volunteering, going to school, among many others”- American Occupational Therapy Association.
What is Sensory Integration?
Sensory Integration allows us to pay attention, learn, plan, and be organized. Our senses (all 8 of them!) give our body and brain information to help us understand the world around us, understand what we need to do in different situations and environments, and how to do those things. When our sensory systems are working well, we are typically not aware of it. However, when our sensory systems have difficulty processing and organizing information, it can lead to challenges in attention, learning, planning, and participating in activities of daily life!
We are here to help!
Positive Steps is a Private Pediatric Occupational Therapy (OT) center located in Livingston, New Jersey. We provide children’s therapy in a fun, family-friendly, professional environment. Serving children from ages 12 months to 18 years, Positive Steps therapists are certified in Sensory Integration, Yoga, Listening Programs, Primitive Reflex Integration, Astronaut Training Protocol, Integrative / Holistic Health, SOS feeding therapy, and Learning Without Tears. All of our therapists regularly attend continuing education courses and seminars to keep up with the newest techniques.

Founded in 2007 by Dana Blumberg, Positive Steps believes that a child’s OT program is a collaborative effort initiated by the therapist and carried out beyond the OT sessions, throughout the child’s daily life. Each therapist works closely and in conjunction with those closest to the kids (e.g., parents, teachers, caregivers, schools, etc.) to achieve your child’s highest potential. Our treatment sessions focus on not just sensory integration, but also fine motor skills (grasping, cutting, handwriting), visual perceptual skills (visual tracking, scanning, discrimination), emotional regulation (as it relates to sensory functioning), and overall executing functioning skills.
Our Mission Statement
Our mission at Positive Steps is to help promote positive change in each child and family by listening, educating, and supporting growth and development. Our goal is to immerse ourselves into our clients' everyday lives in order to have the most impact. Our therapists strive to positively impact your child’s performance at home and school and to help promote their social-emotional growth.
